Blue Jays Get Back to Winning Ways Over Spalding

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Westminster men's basketball broke a two-game losing streak with a win against conference opponent Spalding.

Westminster improves to 13-6 overall and 9-3 in the conference.

"We had a great team win tonight," said Westminster Head Coach Matt Mitchell. "Having four guys in double figures in points is huge for a road conference game."

After getting out to an early lead, including a 10-0 run from the Blue Jays, the Golden Eagles got back in the game with six minutes remaining in the first half. Westminster found themselves tied at 22 at the 3:15 mark, when Sean O'Brien took over. He went on a 7-0 run by himself to help the Blue Jays to a 32-25 halftime lead.

At the 13:10 mark of the second half, Spalding fought back to within five points to make the score 44-39 in favor of Westminster.

Over the next eight minutes, the Blue Jays would go on an 18-6 run led by O'Brien and Zach Nelson

"Zach Nelson had a great second half by attacking the Spalding zone," said Mitchell.

Westminster would end the game on an 8-0 run to put themselves on top with the final and biggest lead of the game at 80-60.

Romo Tabb led all scorers with 20 points on 10-15 shooting, and grabbed eight rebounds. O'Brien added 19 points, while Jimmy Villalobos recorded 12 points of his own. Nelson was the fourth player to score in double-figures for Westminster, adding 10 points from the bench.

The Blue Jays recorded just seven turnovers, their lowest total of the season.

Westminster returns home for a 3 p.m. tipoff against MacMurray. The Blue Jays will honor their three seniors, Tanner Cochran, Javier Martin Ortega, and Zach Nelson before the game.
