Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cold Shooting Dooms Westminster College Women in Conference Loss to Greenville

FULTON, MO  –  A game after shooting 49 percent from the field and a scintillating 46 percent from 3-point range against Iowa Wesleyan, the Westminster College women's basketball team could only muster 35 percent from the field and a blustery 16 percent on 6 of 38 shooting from 3-point range on Monday afternoon. The end result was an 83-62 home loss to Greenville University in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action in Historic Gym.

Mirrakohl Johnson led Westminster with 16 points while Kendahl Adams added 15 and Abbie Reece chipped in 10.

"We have shot the ball so well this year, especially from behind the arc," Westminster Coach James Arnold said. "But sometimes there are days like today where they just don't drop."

Westminster (13-4, 7-2) led early, 3-0, on a trey by Adams, but Greenville battled back to take a 5-3 advantage. The teams traded leads the remainder of the period, which ended with the Panthers on top, 25-19.

In the second quarter, Greenville (13-3, 8-0) led by as many as 13 points, but the Blue Jays managed to trim the Panthers lead at intermission to seven,43-36. However, Westminster could get no closer in the second half and Greenville cruised to the win.

Arnold gave "much credit" to Greenville, who he said was "really, really good today." However, he looks forward to the rematch with the Panthers at Greenville on February 13.

"There are some things we can do, some adjustments we can make for the next game with those guys," Arnold said. "I look very much forward to that."

Westminster returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Blackburn College at 5:30 PM in Historic Gym.

"I'm super thankful that we don't have to think about this long," Arnold said. "We have a big week ahead with two more home opportunities."
