Blue Jays and Golden Eagles Battle To A 2-2 Tie

Louisville, Kentucky 10/22/2022- The Westminster College men's soccer team took the Spalding University Golden Eagles in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays would hold a lead for most of the game but the Golden Eagles scored a goal late to tie the game and make the final score 2-2. Westminster and Spalding drew in both matchups this season, they played to a 0-0 draw at the game in Fulton and 2-2 in the game today. The Blue Jays are now 3-10-3 and 3-6-3 in conference play. The Golden Eagles are 3-7-6 and 2-5-5 in the conference. Westminster and Spalding are currently fifth and seventh in the SLIAC, respectively.

The Blue Jays struck first scoring in the first three minutes of the game after Adam Luetkemeyer (Wentzville, MO / Timberland) found the foot of freshman Noah Naumann (Dardenne Prairie, MO / Fort Zumwalt West) on a corner kick for his first goal of the season to put the Blue Jays up 1-0.

The Golden Eagles would respond near the sixteen-minute mark to tie the game 1-1 and they would hold that score as they headed into halftime.

In the second half, Luetkemeyer would score a goal of his own in the fifty-fourth minute to put Westminster up 2-1. Niklas Olsson (Kansas City, MO / Liberty) would assist on the goal.

Westminster would hold that lead for the next thirty minutes and seemed to be on the way to a 2-1 victory. Spalding would score the equalizing goal with six minutes left to play. Time would run out on both teams as the game would end with a 2-2 tie.

Toby Hughes (Jefferson City, MO/ Jefferson City) got the start in goal and he would make four saves on six attempts.
