Blue Jays Go 1-1 In Day 2 Of Rhodes Classic

Memphis, Tn 9/10/2022 – The Westminster volleyball competed on day number two of the Rhodes College Classic, defeating LeTourneau 3-1 (25-17,27-25,8-25,25-21) in game one. They would lose to Huntingdon in game two 3-1, (25-19,17-25,20-25,20-25)

 Game 1 vs LeTourneau:

The Blue Jays won sets one and two. 25-17 and 27-25. Then in set three, the Yellow Jackets proved why they are one of the top teams in the country. They completely smothered Westminster, limiting them to only eight points in the set. LeTourneau would dominate set 3, 25-8. The Blue Jays would regroup and win set four 25-21 to win the match 3-1 and upset the top team in the tournament!

Eryka Wanyonyi (Columbia, Mo. / Hickman) and Haley Menke (O'Fallon, Mo. / Fort Zumwalt West) continued to play great recording eleven kills each. Setter Kate Rable (Saint Peters, Mo. / Fort Zumwalt South) had twenty-five assists and Gracie Henrikson (Athens, IL / Athens) picked up eleven digs.  

 

Game 2 vs Huntingdon:

The Jays would win set one 25-19 and then lose the next three, 25-17,25-20,25-20 to drop the match 3-1.

Malena Bixby (New Berlin, IL / New Berlin) had a big game and tried to keep her team in it. She would have seventeen kills in the match and three block assists. Wanyonyi and Sophie Reimer (St. Charles, MO / Lutheran) had a team high seventeen digs, Wanyonyi would also put down twelve kills. Payton Bledsoe (Mexico, Mo/ Mexico) was a brick wall, sending back five Hawks attacks with a team-high five block assists.

The Blue Jays will finally have their home opener after having their first eight games on the road. They will host the Stephens College Stars in the Historic Gym on Tuesday, September 13th at 6:00 PM
