01/18/2025 Fulton, MO – In a low-scoring, physical contest, Westminster College struggled to find its rhythm offensively, falling 50-40 to Spalding on Saturday afternoon. Despite a strong rebounding effort and solid defensive play, the Blue Jays were unable to overcome shooting struggles, finishing the game at 27.3% from the field and 16.7% from three-point range. 

Westminster found themselves in an early hole, trailing 22-15 at halftime after a tough opening half where shots were not falling. The Blue Jays battled back in the second half, cutting into the deficit, but Spalding maintained control by capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and timely baskets. 

Walker Gohring led Westminster with a 9-point, 10-rebound effort, while Luke Abeln added 7 points and 7 rebounds. Jamile Johnson contributed 8 rebounds and 3 blocks, anchoring the Blue Jays' defense in the paint. Sean LaRose provided a boost off the bench with 6 points, but Westminster struggled to generate consistent offensive production. 

Despite winning the rebounding battle 49-52, turnovers proved costly for the Blue Jays, as they committed 16 giveaways, allowing Spalding to convert on key possessions. Westminster's defense held Spalding to just 26.8% shooting, but the Golden Eagles were able to capitalize on free throws and second-chance points to maintain their lead. 

Westminster will look to regroup and find its offensive rhythm as they prepare for their next conference matchup.
