10/1/25 Fulton, MO – The Westminster men's soccer team picked up a conference win on Wednesday night, defeating Blackburn 2–0 at home behind a strong second-half performance.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Blue Jays broke through in the 54th minute when Brayden Eckelkamp netted his first career goal, assisted by Braedon Cairer and Nathan Naumann. Westminster doubled its lead in the 80th minute as Parker Murphy scored his first of the season off an assist from Khamani Matallah.
Defensively, Westminster was solid throughout the match. Goalkeeper Hunter Deeken recorded three saves in the full 90 minutes, earning his third shutout of the season.
With the win, Westminster improves to 5–3–1 overall and 1–0–1 in SLIAC play. The Blue Jays will be back in action on Saturday, October 4, at 1 p.m. when they travel to take on Lyon College.
