Blue Jays Battle but Fall to Greenville

10/4/2025 Fulton, MO – Westminster football showed explosive offense and defensive grit on Saturday afternoon, but a strong Greenville finish proved too much as the Blue Jays fell 38-24 at Priest Field.

Greenville opened the game with a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and added a 34-yard rushing score midway through the first quarter to take an early 14-0 lead. The Blue Jays responded quickly, with quarterback Trey Thomas finding Ivan Marin for a 34-yard touchdown strike to cut the deficit in half.

Westminster kept the momentum rolling in the second quarter, as kicker William Corley capped a sustained 15-play drive with a 33-yard field goal to make it 14-10. Moments later, Thomas connected with Conner Coffey for an 81-yard touchdown, the Blue Jays' longest play from scrimmage this season, to give Westminster its first lead at 17-14. Greenville answered just before halftime to retake a 21-17 advantage.

The Blue Jays briefly regained control in the third quarter when Jeremiah Belizaire scooped up a fumble and took it into the end zone, giving Westminster a 24-21 edge. However, Greenville countered with a 20-yard touchdown run later in the period and controlled the fourth quarter, adding a pair of late scores to seal the win.

Thomas finished 15-of-25 passing for 258 yards and two touchdowns. Coffey led the receivers with 95 yards and a touchdown on just two catches, while Marin added 47 yards and a score. Michael Worthy was a reliable target throughout, hauling in seven receptions for 68 yards.

On the ground, Trace Helsel paced the Blue Jay rushing attack with 94 yards on 18 carries, averaging over five yards per attempt. Marquis Williams added 29 yards on 10 carries.

Despite the setback, Westminster continued to show offensive balance and big-play potential. The Blue Jays (2-2) will look to bounce back next Saturday, October 11, when they host Minnesota Morris at 12 p.m. in Fulton.
