11/1/2025 Fulton, MO – The Westminster men's soccer team saw its season come to a heartbreaking end on Saturday night, falling to Principia College in penalty kicks after a hard-fought scoreless draw (0-0) in the SLIAC Tournament quarterfinals.
The Blue Jays and Panthers battled through 110 minutes of intense, physical soccer, with neither side able to find the back of the net in regulation or overtime. Westminster totaled 11 shots, including four on goal, while Principia managed 13 shots with five on target.
Goalkeeper Hunter Deeken was outstanding for the Blue Jays, recording five saves in the shutout performance. Defensively, Westminster held firm throughout the match, fending off multiple late opportunities from the Panthers to force the shootout.
In the penalty shootout, Matthew Garrone and Brandon Schaupert converted their attempts for the Blue Jays, but the Panthers ultimately advanced after a 4-2 edge in penalties.
The loss ends a strong 2025 campaign for Westminster, who finishes the season as the No. 4 seed in the SLIAC and one of the league's most balanced teams on both ends of the pitch. The Blue Jays showcased consistent improvement throughout the year and will look to build on this momentum heading into next season.
