11/21/2025 Fulton, MO – Westminster men's basketball picked up its first victory of the 2025–26 season on Friday evening, overcoming a halftime deficit to defeat the University of the Ozarks 63–58 in the opening game of the Webster Classic.
After trailing 30–20 at the break, the Blue Jays erupted for 43 second-half points, using improved shooting, relentless rebounding, and strong defensive pressure to flip the momentum and close out the win.
Jamile Johnson delivered a dominant performance, finishing with a game-high 22 points and an incredible 15 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Johnson went 8-for-14 from the field and 6-for-8 at the free-throw line while adding seven steals in a standout two-way effort. Kolton Garner added 12 points, hitting a pair of threes while contributing three rebounds and two steals. Walker Gohring and Kobe Jones provided crucial support with 10 points each. Gohring also tallied eight rebounds and three assists, while Jones chipped in four boards and two assists.
Westminster's size and activity on the glass proved to be a difference-maker, as the Blue Jays dominated the rebounding battle 53–29, including 13 offensive rebounds. Aidan Temple pulled down 10 rebounds, and Sean LaRose added three points and provided steady guard play in key stretches.
The Blue Jays shot 22-for-59 from the field and held Ozarks to 28 second-half points while forcing 13 turnovers, helping secure the comeback win. With the victory, Westminster improves to 1–3 on the season. The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, November 22, at 1 p.m. when they take on Concordia University (Wis.) in their second game of the Webster Classic.
