12/15/2025 Fulton, MO - The Westminster women's basketball team took a West Coast trip starting Monday afternoon with a hard-fought 66–55 loss to La Verne, dropping the Blue Jays to 2–8 overall while remaining 2–1 in SLIAC play.
The game opened as a defensive battle, with both teams tied at 11–11 after the first quarter. La Verne found momentum in the second period, outscoring Westminster 23–9 to take a halftime lead. Despite the setback, the Blue Jays regrouped in the third quarter, trimming into the deficit with a 16–11 scoring edge behind improved ball movement and activity on the glass. Westminster continued to push in the fourth, scoring 19 points and cutting the lead to single digits late, but La Verne was able to close out the game at the free-throw line to secure the win.
Aly Bullock led the Blue Jays with a strong all-around performance, finishing with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists for her first double-double of the season. Mariah Mayfield added 11 points, knocking down two three-pointers, while Deyja Mayes provided a spark off the bench with 9 points on efficient shooting. Gizelle Carreto contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds, and Reagan Chigas chipped in 6 points while drawing multiple fouls.
The Blue Jays will look to bounce back in their next contest as they continue the road swing, traveling to face Occidental on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. CST.
