12/3/2025 Fulton, MO – Westminster women's basketball picked up its first victory of the 2025–26 season on Monday night, defeating Principia 66–63 in a tightly contested SLIAC matchup inside Westminster Historic Gym. The Blue Jays led wire-to-wire behind a dominant performance on the glass and balanced scoring across the lineup.
Westminster opened the game with one of its strongest quarters of the season, jumping ahead 19–10 thanks to efficient shooting and defensive execution. The Blue Jays carried an 18–12 edge in the second quarter to take a 37–22 halftime lead. Principia mounted a push after the break, but Westminster's early advantage and key plays down the stretch secured the win.
Gizelle Carreto led the way with a standout all-around performance, posting 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal while shooting 5-for-8 from the field and 6-for-8 at the line. Carreto's poise and control of the tempo were vital in closing out the game. Evalena Claxton and Aly Bullock dominated the interior, combining for 23 points and 22 rebounds. Claxton scored 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting with six boards and four assists, while Bullock recorded an impressive 11 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 blocks. Mariah Mayfield added six points on a pair of threes, and Reagan Chigas contributed four points and four rebounds while facilitating the offense with two assists. Off the bench, Amonye Allen and Madison Brown were difference-makers, each scoring six points and grabbing a combined nine rebounds.
With the win, Westminster improves to 1–6 overall and 1–1 in SLIAC play. The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, December 6, when they travel to Eureka for a 1 p.m. conference matchup.
