12/9/2025 Fulton, MO - The Westminster women's basketball team ran into one of its toughest opponents of the season on Monday night, falling 94–31 to WashU in St. Louis. The Blue Jays move to 2–7 overall and remain 2–1 in SLIAC play.
WashU set the tone early, applying heavy defensive pressure and shooting efficiently to build a 24–9 lead after the first quarter. The Bears continued to push the pace, outscoring Westminster 29–6 in the second frame to take control heading into halftime.
Despite the deficit, Westminster continued to battle, led by Amonye Allen, who finished with a team-high 8 points on 2-of-7 shooting while going a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. Deyja Mayes added 4 points, and Aly Bullock, Reagan Chigas, Gizelle Carreto, Mariah Mayfield, and Evalena Claxton each scored 2. Chigas and Bullock led the team on the glass with 6 and 4 rebounds, respectively, while Westminster collected 34 rebounds as a group. Carreto added a team-high 4 assists, and the Blue Jays forced 8 steals defensively.
Although the Blue Jays struggled to find their rhythm offensively, they continued to compete throughout the second half, showing effort on the boards and in transition. Westminster now looks to regroup as they head west for a non-conference matchup. The Blue Jays travel to Los Angeles, California, to take on La Verne on Monday, December 15.
