4/18/25 Fulton, MO - The Westminster softball team dropped both ends of a conference doubleheader at Greenville University on Tuesday afternoon, struggling to get timely hits in Game 1 and falling behind early in Game 2. With the regular season winding down, the Blue Jays will now turn their focus to Senior Day this weekend at home against MUW.
In Game 1, Westminster was held scoreless through the first six innings before pushing across a run in the seventh, falling 3-1 to the Panthers. Taylor Engelmeyer Payton Dudenhoeffer led the offense each with two hits.
Greenville took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and added an insurance run in the third. Westminster finally broke through in the seventh when Felicity Kirby walked, Dudenhoeffer singled, and Chloe Ferguson grounded out to shortstop to bring in Kirby. However, the late rally came up short.
In Game 2, a 10-run first inning by Greenville proved too much to overcome as the Blue Jays fell 13-3 in five innings. Westminster got on the board in the third inning when Chloe Ferguson singled to lead off and later scored on a Paige Cruzan RBI single. Ellie Bedsworth drove in another run with a groundout, and a failed pickoff attempt allowed Kendall Weber to score as well. The Blue Jays were limited to four hits in the loss, with Ferguson, Weber, Cruzan, and Madison Plybon each recording one.
Westminster will return home for their final games of the season on Saturday, April 19, hosting Mississippi University for Women (MUW) in a doubleheader. The team will also celebrate Senior Day, honoring the contributions and careers of its graduating student-athletes. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Blue Jay Field.
