9/14/25 Fulton, MO – The Westminster volleyball team turned in a dominant weekend at the Red Hawks Classic, winning all four of its matches from Friday through Saturday. The Blue Jays improve to 11–4 overall and showcased a balanced attack across the two-day tournament.
Match 1 – Westminster 3, Mount Mary 0 (25–16, 25–16, 25–15)
The Blue Jays came out sharp in their tournament opener, controlling the pace from the first serve. Paige Rowland tallied 9 kills and 9 digs, while Samantha Hansen hit .353 with 7 kills to provide steady offense. Landrey VanOverschelde dished out 27 assists, effectively spreading the attack, while Haylie Schnake added 10 digs to anchor the defense. Westminster never trailed in the final two sets, finishing with 36 kills as a team.
Match 2 – Westminster 3, Maranatha Baptist 0 (25–5, 25–5, 25–18)
Westminster rolled to its second sweep of the day, leaning on efficiency at the net and balance across the lineup. Makenzie Sansone posted a team-high 9 kills on .421 hitting, while Kylie Hasselbacher was a perfect 7-for-7 on attacks. Schnake once again kept the defense steady with 15 digs, and VanOverschelde added 13 assists. The Blue Jays finished with just 8 attack errors while forcing 20 from Maranatha, controlling every phase of the match.
Match 3 – Westminster 3, Buena Vista 1 (23–25, 25–14, 25–19, 25–19)
The Blue Jays bounced back after a slow start, dropping the first set before storming back to win three straight. Rowland delivered a standout performance with 9 kills, 4 service aces, and 13 digs, while Hasselbacher powered down 11 kills to keep the momentum alive. Katelynn Jackson added 10 kills, and VanOverschelde directed the offense with 37 assists and 9 digs. Westminster's block also came alive, holding Buena Vista to a .128 hitting percentage after the opening frame.
Match 4 – Westminster 3, Ripon 1 (21–25, 25–11, 25–16, 25–17)
Closing the tournament against host Ripon, Westminster showed resilience after dropping the first set. The Blue Jays responded with dominant hitting in the final three frames. Rowland led the way with 10 kills on .500 hitting, while Hansen matched her with 10 kills of her own. Hasselbacher added 11 kills, and Schnake contributed 7 digs. VanOverschelde guided the attack with 25 assists, and the Blue Jays out-hit the Red Hawks .311 to .133 over the final three sets.
Westminster returns home on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. against Knox College.
