1/6/2026 Fulton, MO - The Westminster men's basketball team made history on January 5, earning its first-ever win over William Woods with a 73–70 road victory to improve to 6–7 on the season.
Westminster set the tone early, building a 38–29 halftime lead behind strong defensive effort and control of the boards. William Woods responded with a strong second half, outscoring the Blue Jays 41–35, but Westminster stayed composed late, sealing the win with key stops and clutch free throws.
Walker Gohring led all scorers with 21 points while adding seven rebounds and five assists, knocking down 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. Gavin Hendrix delivered a strong interior performance with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Jamile Johnson added nine points and eight rebounds of his own. Sean LaRose and Roman Phillips each scored eight points, with Phillips shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field. Westminster also held a decisive advantage on the glass, outrebounding William Woods 50–35, which proved critical in the tight contest.
With the historic victory secured, the Blue Jays now turn their attention to their next game at Spalding on Saturday, January 10.
