2/19/2026 Fulton, MO – The Westminster softball team opened its 2026 season at home on Thursday, competing in a pair of closely contested games to begin the year.
In the opener, the Blue Jays tallied six hits and broke through in the fifth inning. Gabriella Pierre delivered the team's first RBI of the season with a double down the left field line, driving in Danijah Fluellen to cut into the deficit. Paige Cruzan also doubled in the game, while Ellie Schisler, Chloe Ferguson, Yadira Montes and Sarah Wendler each added a hit. Westminster was active on the bases, with stolen bases from Ferguson, Montes and Fluellen. In the circle, Payton Dudenhoeffer went the distance, throwing all seven innings and striking out one.
Game two featured another tight battle. The Blue Jays scored their run in the third inning when Pierre singled to right field to bring home Destiny Rosario. Pierre and Cruzan each recorded a hit, while Morgan Rusley and Audrey Johnston added one apiece. Madison Plybon pitched a complete game in the second contest, allowing just two runs over seven innings and striking out four.
Westminster will be back in action tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 20, when it hosts the University of Wisconsin–Platteville at 1 p.m.
