Fulton, Mo. 2/7/2026 — The Westminster College women's basketball team battled through a low-scoring defensive contest Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell 40-33 to Spalding University in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at Westminster Gym.
Westminster got out to a strong start, holding a 13-10 lead after the first quarter thanks to early offensive contributions and tough defense. The Blue Jays continued to fight through the middle quarters, but Spalding's pressure and timely baskets helped the Golden Eagles stay in front for much of the second half.
Senior
Gizelle Carreto paced Westminster's offense with 10 points, showing efficiency around the basket and knocking down a key three-pointer.
Deyja Mayes added 8 points, and
Reagan Chigas contributed 4, helping keep the Blue Jays in striking distance throughout the game.
Westminster's defense forced several contested possessions, but a cold shooting day limited scoring opportunities in the second half as Spalding pulled away late. The Blue Jays will look to regroup as they continue SLIAC play next week when they travel to Greenville, Illinois to take on the Panthers on Wednesday, February 11.
