Blue Jay Softball Splits Tough Series on Road Against Webster

St. Louis, MO– The Blue Jay Softball team entered Saturday's doubleheader against Webster, winners of four straight, playing very good softball along the way. Webster, on the other hand, entered the day an undefeated 6-0 in conference play. This series tested two of the hottest teams in the SLIAC.

Game 1: W, 7-2

Recap:

Madison Plybon, the Blue Jays most trusted arm, started the opener. The righty did what she seemingly does best: dominate. Plybon pitched all seven innings, giving up just two runs. Webster's offense had an average of 9.5 runs per game in its first six conference games. With that strong start, the offense did not need to put much together to win, but did anyway. After only recording one hit in the first two innings, Ellie Bedsworth smacked a solo home run to get the scoring started. The Jays scored in every inning that followed. Highlighted by a three-run seventh courtesy of RBI doubles from Yadi Montes and Ellie Schisler, and an RBI knock from Carlie Regier, gave the Jays all the cushion they needed, winning this one 7-2, handing Webster its first conference loss of the season.

Game 2: L, 2-4

Recap:

Going for the sweep, which would be the Jays' fourth in their last five series played, and a sixth straight win, Westminster turned to Peityn Thomas to pitch. Thomas was given some insurance early after a first-inning sacrifice fly from Yadi Montes. That lead was short-lived, though, as Webster took advantage of a two-out error and scored two unearned runs to take the lead. The second inning brought more of the same. Another unearned run scored thanks to an error, and Webster was able to bring in another later in the inning. This messy lead held up as Westminster only managed one more run the rest of the game from an Ellie Schisler sixth-inning double to bring the deficit to two. The Jays' winning streak came to an end at the hands of Webster with a final score of 2-4.

Westminster's Softball team will head on the road again this Thursday, 4/16, to play Principia for two. Principia currently sits at 3-15 overall and 0-8 in conference play. The Jays are 13-16 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
