10/25/2025 Fulton, MO – The Westminster football team put together a strong offensive showing on Saturday afternoon but couldn't overcome a big fourth quarter from Martin Luther, falling 38-28 at Kent & Judith Mueller Stadium.
After a scoreless first quarter, both teams traded momentum in the second. Martin Luther opened the scoring with a 20-yard field goal, but Westminster responded with a 10-play, 75-yard drive capped by a 2-yard touchdown run from Trace Helsel to take a 7-3 lead. The Knights answered late in the half with a 50-yard touchdown strike to go into halftime up 10-7.
The Blue Jays regained the lead early in the third quarter when Trey Thomas broke free for a 7-yard touchdown run to make it 14-10. Martin Luther responded again through the air before Westminster took back the lead in the fourth when Thomas found Keegan Zdybel for a 23-yard touchdown, putting the Blue Jays ahead 21-17.
However, the Knights' explosive passing game took over from there, connecting on touchdown passes of 55 and 70 yards and returning an interception for another score to surge ahead 38-21. Westminster kept fighting, as Thomas and Zdybel linked up once more for a 39-yard touchdown late in the quarter, but the rally came up short.
Thomas led the Westminster offense, completing 23 of 34 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score. Zdybel caught seven passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns, while Michael Worthy had a team-high 107 receiving yards on six catches. Helsel led the rushing attack with 34 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
Westminster (2-5) will close out its home schedule next Saturday, November 1, against Greenville University at 1 p.m. at Kent & Judith Mueller Stadium. The matchup will also serve as Senior Day for the Blue Jays.
