11/15/2025 Fulton, MO – The Westminster women's basketball team put together one of its strongest defensive efforts of the season on Saturday afternoon but fell in a tightly contested matchup, dropping a 56–55 decision to Monmouth College.
The Blue Jays opened the game with one of their best quarters of the season, scoring 18 points while holding Monmouth to 12. Westminster carried that momentum through halftime with a 28–17 lead, but Monmouth responded with an 18-point third-quarter surge to trim the deficit. In the fourth, the Scots capitalized on key possessions to edge ahead in the final minutes.
Gizelle Carreto and Aly Bullock led the Blue Jays with 10 points each. Carreto knocked down two threes and went 4-for-4 at the line while adding five rebounds. Bullock added six boards, three assists, and one steal in her 36 minutes on the floor. Deyja Mayes delivered an efficient performance, scoring nine points on 3-of-6 shooting and going 3-for-4 at the line. Evalena Claxton also had a strong showing with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds. Mariah Mayfield chipped in six points, and Madison Brown added four, hitting a three-pointer in her limited minutes. Westminster's balanced scoring and team rebounding kept them in control for much of the contest.
Despite the strong effort, Monmouth outscored Westminster 21–11 in the final quarter to narrowly escape with the win. The Blue Jays (0–5) return home for their next matchup, hosting Webster University on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 5:30 p.m.
