Westminster Splits Day Three in Florida Behind Strong Pitching

3/22/2026 Fulton, MO - Westminster softball continued play in Clermont on day three of its spring break trip, earning a split with a strong win in game one before dropping the second contest.

The Blue Jays opened the day with a 6-2 victory, using timely hitting and solid pitching to control the game. Westminster broke through in the third inning when Paige Cruzan delivered a two-run double, followed by a run scoring on an error to make it 3-0. After the opponent cut into the lead in the sixth, Westminster responded with three insurance runs in the seventh, highlighted by an RBI double from Amber Dierling and aggressive baserunning. Gabriella Pierre led the offense with two hits and two runs scored, while Dierling added two hits and an RBI. Cruzan finished with a team-high two RBIs. In the circle, Madison Plybon tossed a complete game, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out five to earn the win.

In game two, Westminster fell 7-2 despite a late push. The Blue Jays were limited offensively early but broke through in the sixth inning, scoring two runs to cut into the deficit. Cruzan and Pierre each recorded a hit and scored a run, while Dierling drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Peityn Thomas took the loss in the circle, allowing seven runs over 4.2 innings, while Lilli Anne Readenour provided strong relief, holding the opponent scoreless over the final 2.1 innings.

Westminster will look to build on its strong moments as the Florida trip continues.
